Katy Krassner is a highly accomplished entertainment executive with expertise in social media strategy, execution, branding and community management as well as editorial copywriting. She is a sought after bio and press release writer, and has worked in a PR capacity for a wide variety of artists including Robert Plant, Kiss, CAKE, The Allman Bros, Luther Vandross, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Ray J, Iron Maiden, Morrissey, Kelly Osbourne, Blondie and more.
Katy began her career as an intern in the PR Department of Fox Television in New York, sending out photos of The Simpsons and answering fan mail. She made her entrance in the music industry at CMJ, helping run the CMJ Music Marathon Convention and Film Fest. After four years she shifted from event planning and management to artist management, working at The Left Bank Organization, a music management company with clients such as Duran Duran, John Mellencamp, Meat Loaf, Clint Black , Luther Vandross, The BeeGees and the cranberries among others. After Left Bank’s New York office closed, Katy moved in to publicity at So What Media, working as an independent publicist with acts such as the Boys Choir of Harlem and 98 Degrees. Two years later, she was hired as the Director of Publicity at Disney’s Hollywood Records, working the label’s developing tween and teen acts, including Nobody’s Angel, Youngstown and the platinum selling band BBMak. Katy left Disney to take the VP of Publicity position as The Sanctuary Group, a company that was publically held on the London Stock Exchange. She was involved with both corporate and artist publicity at Sanctuary, running campaigns for Iron Maiden, Earth Wind and Fire, Neil Young, Living Colour, Billy Idol, Robert Plant and many, many more. After leaving Sanctuary, Katy moved to Universal Republic, where she worked hip-hop (Flobots, Kevin Rudolf), rock & pop (Your Vegas, Graham Colton, Matt Wertz, Scott Matthews) and even comedy (Andy Samberg’s The Lonely Island).
Katy has had a long association with the band Duran Duran, maintaining and managing all of their online properties and providing content for both their website and paid fan community. She has published a book with the group called Would Someone Please Explain, The Best of Duran Duran’s Ask Katy, and has had the unique experience of writing the entire Playbill for Duran Duran’s Red Carpet Massacre on Broadway.
As a contributing writer Katy has been featured in the book Retro Hell, published by Little Brown & Co., and Ben Is Dead magazines.
